Thanks to everyone for our stellar reviews!

We still have room for your review!

The hits keep coming! Another review: www.livefromrocknrollranch.com

This review is about the mic arms we use in the studio at our station. I’ll be honest… I was looking around for a good deal for mic arm booms and ran across alot that just didn’t cut it, or they were way too expensive. A friend of mine told me about Q-mic.com and said go check them out… They will work for you and the price is right… (To say the least)

So, I sent for two of them to see what they where like… In a matter of 5 Min’s after we installed them I was on the computer ordering two more for the guest mics… These things are great…. I’m not going to go into a long detailed boring review but I will say this…. They are strong, Well built , The cable that came with it is high grade shielded cable that is really long… and at the price of cabling and connectors I can’t believe this comes with the setup !

I could go on and on… Enough said…. IT’S A GREAT PIECE OF GEAR AND THE PRICE CAN’T BE BEAT…!!!!! ON A RATING OF ONE TO FIVE STARS IT GETS THE FULL FIVE STARS…..!!!!!!
Wow! Another fantastic review! Thanks IRM!

IRM Review: QM-50 Studio Scissior Mic Boom
by: Jay Thomas

Rating (1-5): 4.8

Podcasters are often the epitome of “shoestring budget” producers. Yet, many of them understand the role good equipment plays in a quality podcast or show. Independent musicians who are cost averse might prefer to build their own studio, rather than paying $500 per hour for studio time. What these two groups have in common is the need for durable equipment that won’t break their banks.

We have checked out dozens of studio mic arms. There are several out there not even worth mentioning - and there is a plethora of studio mic arms that are great if you are looking in the $200-$300, or higher, price range. Finding a Studio Scissor Mic Boom that was both affordable and durable has been a challenge - we found one; the QM-50 from www.q-mic.com.

Now, we gave this piece of equipment a 4.8 rating, and we first stated we were not going to compare this to $300-$500 studio booms, but Q-Mic has sold dozens of these mic arms to radio stations and they are much in demand for that purpose. We can see why - this is not a cheap piece of junk - it is obviously built to last.

We found the QM-50 to be highly durable, silent, easily moved during broadcasting, and rock steady with a large Behringer C1 mounted on it. No droop, no squeak, no jerky motion when moving the mic. After a month of daily use, the QM-50 by q-mic.com worked as new.

The purchase experience was simple and the transaction was quick and efficient. Highly recommended.

The following is extracted from a much larger review of the Q-Mic from Podcast User Magazine (www.podcastusermagazine.com).

Traditional mic stands are designed for studio use, with the vocalist standing up and concentrating on singing. Podcasters have more to worry about; the computer, the mixing desk, sweepers and bumpers, Skype calls, Podsafe Music etc. etc. as well as the quality of the recording and of course the content!

I realised a while ago that what I needed was a decent microphone stand which would clamp to the far side of my desk and allow me to move it about as I needed to. Enter the Q-Mic from Q-Mic..

As the Q-Mic arm was significantly cheaper than shop-based products I took the plunge and ordered one figuring nothing ventured nothing gained. Wow! What a great surprise. A quality product, shipped fast and at a great price.

I really am a very happy user of this mic arm and I ordered a second one for my studio shortly after the first one arrived. Repeat business is a good sign in my book.

By the way, Q-Mic has not paid for this article and has not offered to advertise in the magazine. This is NOT an advertorial. I really rate this product.

Always a happy camper with q-mic! Thanks for selling these. I will buy more!

Great Mic Arm, held my heaviest mics securely. Love the riser! Makes it sooo easy!

I use a Behringer B2 Pro, which is a heavy mic, and your boom holds it rock solid. Even better, I can move it freely and it stays where I put it. All this without touching the thumb screws. In addition, the metal clamp-on base can be cinched down tightly. My table would give way before that thing would budge. You wouldn't believe how many swing-arm lamps I've broken because the cheap plastic clamps gave way. I seldom say this about anything, but there is absolutely nothing about the design of this boom or the way it operates that I would change!

Love the Boom Marty. Very good quality. I’ll hit you with some great feedback next time I log into the bay. Cheers!

6/1/06 -- I currently have the el-cheapo you compared your mic arm with :) so lets wait till i give it a test.

6/6/06 -- All i can say is WOW, very nice compared to the value of other products like i have used over the years!

Well, all I can say is that the other guy's stuff is of such infererior quality as to be useless in any real studio application. I bought three types of scissor booms -- 2 from that other guy, 1 from a profesional radio supply shop ($159 US) and yours -- the cheap one broke within 5 minutes, so it was useless, the pro one was great but very expensive. But yours are, perhaps surprisingly, just as good as the $159 one. The metal isn't quite as thick on the arms, although close, but they hold up perfectly, and come with the same attachments. So to me the issue is, why couldn't I figure that out?.

Feel free to quote me. After I got your boom, I ordered more to replace the cheap ones that now lie in a box, can't even resell them on ebay.

OK !!!!! Nice !!!! You're right, this is a quality mic arm! Very pleased! Can't wait to set up my mic...

My QM50 mic arm arrived two hours ago after your very prompt shipment -- nice service! I've already mounted the 12” riser base at the right front corner of my workstation counter using bolts and wing nuts. The long boom arm works perfectly, reaching both my own voiceover area at the computer screens and the standup talent area to my right. It's high enough to handle the tallest clients I'll ever allow in my studio -- I'd have to stand on a chair to use it where I have it right now! And once the adjustments are established, my Groovetubes mic remains perfectly vertical in all positions. I appreciate having the other two bases as well and I'm sure they'll serve well in future applications.

This is a remarkable value. You have a winner here!

All I can say is WOW. I put our heavy CAD GXL3000 mic on it, and the mic arm worked superbly. The arm did not drop or slide. I am VERY impressed. Great Product for the price! Broacasting will be fun again!.

Thanks so much for a great product.

I recieved the mic arm and it's exactly what my school radio program needed! I will reccomend you to others in my school district who are looking to upgrade their PA or radio setups.

Thanks for a great product.

Sincerely,

Jason

20 years in the radio business and this arm is as good as any I've ever used! You rock, dude!

Hey!

Amazing... Paid at 4:00, recieved the next day at 2:00! Fastest item I've EVER gotten!

I had to write to tell you I was more than a bit skeptical when you told me that your QM-50 was every bit as good as OC's and Luxo's. I already knew it had to be better than the cheapie sold on eBay as I'd already bought one of those and it broke as soon as I put my EV mic on it and tried to move it. The plastic base snapped right off, and when I emailed him about it, he said screw it down, the base won't hold a heavy mic! Now, call me stupid, but he advertises it as capable of holding a 3 lb mic!

But regardless, anyone who's tried your mic arm knows it's the best arm for the price anywhere! And anyone who sacrifices $20 to get cheap REALLY gets cheap! I've been doing VO work for years, and worked in 100's of studios and except for a few custom $1000 mic arms, this one is the absolute best. OC costs way more and yours is every bit as good for about 1/3rd the price, just as you advertise!

PS, I tossed the cheapie in the trash.

Its as solid as mic arms I've used that cost five times more.
Mike

As a lifetime ham radio operator, I have tried many gadgets to get my mic off my desk and nothing has performed as well as the mic arm I got from you last week. I've already told friends from all over the globe about it and I'm sure I'll refer more! (Hate to say it kicked Heil's unit off to the closet)

Thanks again for a superb product!

Bob
